Springtime proposal at the Whistler Peak Skybridge

Garry contacted me through my website back in August of 2017. He told me that he and his girlfriend would be coming up to Whistler in September for the RBC GranFondo; a mass participation cycling event that takes participants from Vancouver up the Sea-to-Sky highway to finish their ride in Whistler. This would be Garry’s second time participating in the event, but this time he wanted to end it with a different kind of celebration. This time after crossing the finish line Garry wanted to bring his longtime girlfriend Jessica at the top of Whistler Peak for a proposal.

The Cloudraker Skybridge was a new addition to the Whistler landscape last year. The Cloudraker Skybridge is a suspension bridge spans 130m from Whistler Peak to the West Ridge, offering spectacular views of the valley below. It quickly became a popular spot for tourists and locals alike. It was not long until people started recognizing the potential of the Cloudraker Skybridge as a Whistler Peak proposal location.

Garry and I emailed back and forth as we hatched a perfect Whistler Peak proposal plan. We exchanged numbers to make sure that we were able to meet up in the correct spot on the Cloudraker Skybridge for the proposal without Jessica figuring out what was going on.

The day came and I headed up Peak chair with camera in hand to wait for Garry and Jessica on the suspension bridge. As I waited on the West Ridge platform of the Cloudraker Skybridge the weather quickly turned and the bridge truly lived up to its name as clouds and rain rolled in to Whistler Bowl. This did not discourage Garry in the slightest.

You can do you best to plan the perfect proposal, but at the end of the day what really matters is you and your best friend sharing in a moment that you will remember for the rest of your life. So even though we could not see the view it did not matter because the only thing Jessica was looking at was Garry.
